What we do for you, and what we charge.

Our service
Check My Taxes is a family-run service in San Jose. We are not affiliated with the County of Santa Clara or any school district. We look up your public 2026–27 property-tax bill, tell you which lines you may be able to waive, and, if you ask us to, prepare and submit the exemption applications for you and follow up until each one is decided.
We file for the current tax year. We never promise refunds for past years.
Fees and when we bill
- One-time fee. For each exemption a district or agency approves, our fee is half of that line's first-year saving. (Some campaigns use a third instead of a half; the figure we show you before you sign is the one that applies.)
- Minimum. There is a $39 minimum per household, except when the Open Space Authority's Measure D is the only line we file; then there is no minimum.
- Only after approval. We bill only after the district or agency approves the exemption. If a line is not approved, there is no fee for it.
- No card. We never ask for a card or payment details when you sign up.
- Nothing in later years. You pay once. After that you keep the full saving every year.
- Annual re-filing. Where a district requires the exemption to be filed again every year, we re-file it for you at no charge.
- Homeowners' Exemption. When your bill is missing it, we file it for free with any paid filing.
Cancelling
You can cancel at any time before an exemption is approved by calling or emailing us. Nothing is owed for a line that has not been approved.
